Journal entry by Sonja Reep Essick

Good morning to my family, friends and prayer warriors,

I want to let you know that yesterday was a big, long awaited for day. I completed my last chemo treatment!

The event felt even bigger because I’ve been battling the ability to get my treatments because my white blood count and platelets have been too low, due to my bodies response to the strong chemo drugs.

I also got a good report yesterday on my first CT scan done since my surgery and the starting of treatments. There is no visible sign of cancer. I will have some follow up CTs in the near future and am thankful for a good report yesterday.

I must be honest, this last six months has been excruciating hard on many levels. But the God I believe in makes promises that He keeps, and I have been covered by His comfort, protection and people.

Isaiah 43:2-3 says it best.
When you pass through the waters,
  I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
  they will not sweep over you.
when you walk through the fire,
  you will not be burned;
  the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
  the Holy one of Israel, your Savior;

Paul has been my physical and emotional care taker and punching bag. God bless him for patiently allowing me to well...just feel safe and cared for.

Josh and Emily have been great at letting me know that they are with me, even in the physical distance.

i am humbled by the family and friends that have come to stay with us (before Covid), that brought both Paul and I the support we have so appreciated. Each visitor brought with them in their very own way, gift of presence.

I am humbled by the fact that I have not had one day where I have not received a text, call or card from someone just making sure I was knowing I was not alone. From those that I am not surprised and some  from the most unexpected of people, and received with such gratitude and amazement.

Because I am in a clinical trial, I will continue to receive immunotherapy infusions and oral medications for the the next year and a half. Hopefully this treatment will ward off or at least push away reoccurrence of the Cancer.

So thank you for being with me. I am forever grateful for all of you.

Love
Sonja
