David, thank you for sharing this. You had a remarkable brother who was a gift/blessing to all of us. Once in a Krista meeting with the video we talked about God protecting us. I really thought I had been protected by God in some difficult situations in my life. As I talked about that I realized that there is not protection, but presence, "being with" in all circumstances. One is not saved from danger, but God is always present. Stephen said this about the same time I was becoming aware of it - same moment. I think he had this insight long before I did. But his words reaffirmed my insight.

I am a Friend of your sister, Kathy. I hear you are also learning to walk again. I had to do that after breaking a leg. It. Is difficult. Remember to stand tall. And laugh often but probably not when you are learning to walk!

Dear Stephen,
What a circle of F/friends and family are holding you. Jerry and I send deep love and care to you, your siblings, parents, and Damon and his family. You are a bright light in all of our lives. I'll forever hold the image of you arriving unexpectedly (but so welcome) at our house, the only person I know tall enough to look into the window at the top of our front door. You are a model of integrity for us (and undoubtedly many others). We so appreciate your staying in touch over decades. And thank you, David, for the update.

David, Thank you so much for everything you are doing. Even an unedited video link would be wonderful.

Stephen, Sorry I couldn't attend, have been totally slammed and it was the weekend before Finals when I had to try and get as much work graded and returned as possible. Trying to teach online when they won't let you use Zoom meetings because some of the kids cannot afford the data has been painful. I know the equity issue but some of the students are so poor at reading that online teaching from the books is really challenging, and now finally at the end of the semester have given Finals online this week. So very different than last December's Finals week when we saw Harry Potter...

Lots of changes in both education and worker organizing. Education is going to be hit really hard given California's new budget limits and San Francisco no longer has the extra money to bail us out locally. The CA State Universities are going to be all online only next Fall but think they get to use Zoom meetings. They are trying to hedge their bets for Fall at City College but all of Summer is online. The only people allowed to do paper based correspondence classes seem to be the jails and maybe some of the non-credit classes.

With COVID-19 workers have more at stake. They may be challenging their bosses more, or it may be getting more publicity. Folks are taking some of the software technology from Bernie's campaign and using it to try and remotely match unhappy workers with volunteer organizers nationwide. Some of the advice is to go for media outreach much sooner now... Thinking of you, take care and love, Angie

There once was a heroic man called Stephen Matchett. He lived and breathed his Ideals and principles. He worked hard in the service of the greater Good for all the world. He shone with the light of Love, and everyone who knew him felt touched by his goodness. I love you, Stephen , thanks for our friendship.

Dear Stephen,
Leyla called this morning to tell me about this website and update me on your news, and since then I have spent the day with my gaze going back and forth between a gorgeous fragrant fire-orange azalea blooming outside my window and my prayer candle, which sits on my kitchen table and has been burning off and on for you for weeks now. Both are radiating beauty and fire and Light, just like you. I'm holding thee in my heart. Shine on, Stephen!
Love love love
Marcy

Today is Thursday and I sure hope you can feel the love and prayer that are surrounding you, Stephen, David, and family. Today we read Psalm 34 in "Come As You Are" Bible Study. The joy that the psalmist finds in his relationship with God is so similar to yours, Stephen, and I do hope you have that same experience of God being with you always. We miss you in these small gatherings and so look forward to the day when we can be together with you again. Planning for Quarterly Meeting is moving apace...far more complex than I had anticipated to hold a large gathering over Zoom, but I think we are nearly as ready as we can be and must leave the rest in the hands of Spirit. Jim and I think of you often and send our love.
