Skip’s Story

Site created on March 4, 2018

A year ago Dad had some frightening heart trouble -- we thought we were going to lose him then, however with the help of an excellent cardiologist he rebounded (although a bit thinner) and had found a new normal.  It was a bit surprising to us all when he started slowing down significantly a few weeks ago.  Last Sunday he went to the ER with difficulty breathing.  After several days in ICU he was released Thursday to go home with Hospice.  We all thought he would do the "rebound thing" he had done before...he's a fighter,  but to our dismay he is declining and becoming weaker.  The family feels very fortunate that we've had time to tell him how much we love him.  We thought there might be others who would also like to send him a message.  He loves his Army pals, his Military Collector cohorts, his neighbors, and his HRA family of staff and students.  Please feel free to leave a message here or contact him at home.  Nancy is doing an excellent job of caring for him.  We would also like to invite you to pray with us for comfort, peace and joy as we celebrate his life WITH him while he is still WITH us in Body.  Thank you in advance.

Journal entry by Tammy Jones

We are happy to report that West Point has given us approval to inter Skip with his father (Erven Somerville) in the West Point Cemetery.

The burial will take place on Monday, 1 October at 10am.
We welcome any and all who would like to join us as we honor his life.
It was his last wish to be buried at West Point with his Dad and our honor to make it happen.

Sending you all our love and gratitude for lifting dad (and us) up in prayer.

Fondly,
Tammy
