Journal entry by Annalou Medina

Our fur baby's name is SKIPPY, a 13 lb mixed Shetland Sheepdon - Pomeranian and will be turning 9 this November. He was given up by a relative because he doesn't eat on his own, so we took him. And for 8 years, he is being spoon-fed. We don't mind doing this for this little guy because we love him so dearly. He is pretty much healthy since we had thim until his dental cleaning on April 8, 2019. The Vet had to extract 12 teeth, with our consent, as they went loose due to periodontal disease. Surgery went okay as what they said, but that was not the case. Skippy's typical life changed. He started furiously pawing, if not with his e-collar, he could have scratched off and injured his mouth.  They did another surgery on his a week after to re-suture the fistula that opened up, but this did not resolve the pawing episodes, medications for pain or discomfort never fixed the problem. We brought skippy to another vet for 2nd opinion, but did not help as well.  We were  told to see a Dental Specialist, as they have never seen a reaction like Skippy's from any dog/s after dental procedures. There may be underlying problems like nerve damage that a Specialist could handle.  Most of the Dental specialists are booked for months and the closest date we can get is on August 5, 2019.

Skippy is not just a pet. He is a family. Our baby. He is my best buddy, bed mate, my shadow, my protector, my comforter, my "Everything". Having to come home and excitedly greeted by him takes all the tiredness and stress away. Skippy has shown us his UNCONDITIONAL love and seeing him suffer like this, having like a Seizure kind of way 20+ a day, gasping for air, heart pounding after each episodes is so painful to see.

We miss his old  self. Playful, joyful. For now, he is on medication to make him relax and on e-collar for more than 2 months now, while waiting for his Dental Specialist Appointment. We just give all the comfort he needs to make him feel that he is not on this predicament journey alone.

We hope and pray that after they repair again his fistula, he will be okay again, and hopefully no major damage caused by this dental extractions.

We also hope, with your good heart and prayers, we can give SKIPPY the medical treatment he deserves to get him back to his healthy state.
