Site created on October 4, 2021

In September 2021 I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Breast cancer. I will post periodic updates here to keep friends and family informed.

Journal entry by Siobhann Williams

It's been a few weeks since I posted and a lot has happened. The last few weeks have been hard but with some good news along the way. As I progressed through chemo, the side effects got worse each week. By the last week I was sleeping a LOT. Good news is - I am now finished with chemo and have started to feel better!

The doctors tell me that the chemo has worked and the primary cancer can no longer be seen or felt. This is very good news! They do think there is still some cancer in my lymph nodes. They will take the first node during surgery and do pathology to see what's up. We will go from there as far as deciding what that means.

For now, I am healing from chemo to prepare for surgery in February. I am hoping that the hospital does not have to push surgery back due to the COVID surge. Last I heard, the University of Kansas Hospital system had over 1,000 staff out sick with COVID.

Fortunately I work with folks who have been incredibly supportive and they have been flexible in allowing me to work as I am able. This has helped me to stay engaged and feel productive. Without that this time would have been much harder for me.
