Newest Update

Journal entry by Sandy Bowker

Hello..another month has gone by since the last post and we thought it was time for an update. Mom continues to make great progress. She is largely independent with self care at home and stays alone for many hours at a time. There are things she cannot reach and many household chores that she cannot do but she goes inside and outside with the walker, makes simple meals, and no longer needs assistance in the middle of the night. I think her independent spirit is winning. ;). There have been no medical setbacks and no falls; huge pluses in her recovery. Blood pressure continues to be her Achille's heal and she told Lisa yesterday she does not want us to take her blood pressure anymore. (That is not a battle she is going to win). She still has home health aides three hours a day to help with chores and transportation and a family member overnight just in case. She has also started outpatient occupational and physical therapies. The best news is she is now getting together with friends to play cards. We think that is the best therapy of all.

Melanie will be coming from California on Wednesday and staying at mom's for almost 4 weeks. We are all very excited about this visit as she has never stayed so long. Unfortunately, there is some concern that mom may kick her out early because a couple of the Wiegner daughters did not inherit mom's penchant for organization. During the last visit, Melanie got away with it by just shutting her bedroom door but now mom can go anywhere in the house and can open doors independently.....😁

The big news is that Mom decided to put down a deposit on a brand new assisted living facility that is opening several miles from her house in Richland. (She may tell you we are putting her in a nursing home..I continue to work on the correct term 😩) It looks like it will be beautiful and we hope it will reduce her stress as meals, friends, and housekeeping will be built in. Our hope is August/September although restrictions associated with COVID make this less certain.

As always, thanks for reading.
