Dear Roshan… I do hope you are getting notices of new tributes written for your mom. There may be many others like myself who have just learned of her passing… others who are as shocked and saddened by this untimely death. Although we have not kept in touch in recent years, I am still very connected to Shirin, to your dad and to you… as I remember you as a young child and marked the milestones in your life. I am sure you know that a great many people loved your mother, treasured her friendship and mentorship. Her influence on our lives continues to be profound. My love to you with belated condolences. Shirin was one of a kind, never to be forgotten.

Dear Roshan and family,
I am so devastated by the news of your mom’s passing especially since I didn’t know she was sick and just found out about this site tonight. I last talked to her in September and we discussed getting together this spring. I am sure you and your family are so grateful for her visit northeast this past summer. Roshan, my heart aches for you as I know how close you were to your mom and how hard the past couple of months must have been watching her decline despite your loving attention and care. She was so proud of you! I’m glad my friendship with her extended to you. Sending love and cyber hugs!

If only we had a million more Shirin's on the earth the world would be a much better place. Her laugh was infectious. May her love be a lesson of inclusion. She always made everyone feel cared for and appreciated. May we all work towards doing the same for others in our lives in her memory. All I see is her beautiful smile. May she be at peace, may we all be at peace. One of my favorite people. I miss and love you Shirin.

I have tried to write about how much Dr. Antia meant, and still means to me, but I keep pausing to think about how much I miss her and how much she supported me. I have been in tears on and off, just thinking about her. Roshan, please take care of yourself. We all loved your mother <3<3<3

The University of Arizona College of Education posted the below about the passing of Dr. Shirin Antia a dear friend and colleague

The College of Education Special Education-Deaf/Hard of Hearing program is sad to share the news that Dr. Shirin Antia passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, after a brief illness.

Dr. Antia retired in May after leading our program for more than 40 years. During that time, she prepared countless teachers of deaf and hard of hearing students, studied the best ways to support deaf and hard of hearing students in general education schools, assisted in the creation of the Association of College Educators-Deaf/Hard of Hearing, led the development of innovative interventions to support literacy in deaf and hard of hearing students through the Center on Literacy and Deafness, supported the next generation of scholars through the National Leadership Consortium in Sensory Disabilities, and was recognized as a preeminent expert in our field. Her many contributions will be felt for years to come.

We pass along our deepest sympathies to Shirin’s family and close friends. Dr. Antia will be remembered as a supportive mentor, respectful colleague, and good friend by many, both in and out of our field. She is irreplaceable and will be missed.

Condolences to all who knew and loved Shirin, I will miss her wonderful smile and awesome questions! I was lucky enough to know her, spend time with her and George in their beautiful home, reconnect each year at our Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACEDHH) conference, hang out with her and the CLAD team on retreats, and work with her on multiple other projects. She took me under her wing, even though I was never a student of hers, and always made me feel appreciated and welcomed into her group of colleagues and students. I have been in touch with so many this week who love her and already miss her presence and this has provided some comfort during this sad time. Sending love and hugs to all in their time of grief and thank you to the family for providing these updates, my thoughts are especially with you at this time.
