Shira ’s Story

Site created on February 4, 2021

Shira Shatzkes, a beloved mother of five, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and community leader is in critical condition. On Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, Shira suddenly collapsed due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. Since then,  she has had two brain surgeries and remains in a coma.

There are not enough words to describe Shira. She is known for her radiance and beauty inside and out; a true model of kindness, warmth and friendship. Our family thanks the community for your outpouring of mitzvot, tefilot and tzedakah for Shira's refuah shelaima  (complete and speedy recovery).

Journal entry by The Shatzkes Family

This past Wednesday, after 99 days in the ICU and rehabilitation, Shira came home. It is an extremely monumental moment in her journey and her progress is certainly coming along. My family and I are so grateful for all the prayers that have been channeled in Shira’s direction. There’s no doubt in our minds that the collective goodness of others has brought Shira home.

While we are elated at her homecoming, the injuries Shira sustained, combined with the setbacks she suffered while in the hospital, have left her in a very fragile state physically, mentally and cognitively. She requires constant assistance for even the smallest of tasks. Her healing is not even close to done yet and she has a long way to go in this process. I ask that you continue to keep Shira in your thoughts and prayers as she enters this next phase of her healing.
