Journal entry by Sherrie Zlomke

Another sleepless night, Oh Lord,
As many others came before.
I pray, and beg, and plead, and groan,
Into the wee hours of the morn’.
This blessed cocktail of drugs I take,
That helps erase the pain of breaks,
Can not the sleeplessness I shake.

Another sleepless night Oh Lord,
To pray and talk and confess once more.
I pull off the cloth that hides me from others,
For with you I need not bother,
The cloak that hides my deepest flaws,
Is laid at your feet for true confession.
The times of lack, selfishness, and pity,
But you assure me once again,
I am enough, You made me so.

I am Your child, of this I’m certain.

Another sleepless night, Oh Lord,
For You to show Your purposes for me.
We talk and plan of things to come,
As you send this broken body out
To help or encourage or give a shout,
To others that need You close to them.

Another sleepless night, Oh Lord,
Just one more in a list of many.
I’ve cried out for life, and healing,
Or just relief from the crippling pain that I am feeling.
You wrap your loving arms around
And call me Yours, so do not fear.
I feel your sweet breath upon my face,
Relief of its own I’m so thankful for.

Another sleepless night, Oh Lord,
I’m sure there’ll be so many more.
But You are here as always before
Telling this child of Your love and grace.
I continue to look upon Your face,
As we talk, and whisper, and sometimes giggle.
For even my bed is a Holy Place,
As You are here and I’m in Your embrace.

I am a child of God
I am enough, You made me so.
I’ll face whatever You put before me,
By the strength You place deep within me.

So many sleepless nights ahead,
I’ve come to treasure this time at your throne.
Come take my hand and walk me through the days before me,
I’m asking you that they be many.

I am Your child, of this I’m certain.
