Journal entry by Shelly Martinson

Hi Friends and Family,

Unfortunately, surgery didn't go as planned.  Once Shelly was brought back and the procedure began, it was decided they would not be able to move forward.  The doctors immediately noticed that her liver would not be able to endure the operation at this time.  Shelly's liver had developed chemo induced cirrhosis and was in bad shape.  Her surgeon stated there was a high possibility of the liver starting to bleed and not being able to stop it.  A move too risky and they were not willing to put Shelly's life at risk.  Due to this finding, the rest of the tumor removal that was scheduled was not completed.

As you would expect, my sister was devastated.  Instead of waking up and hearing that the tumors were removed, she woke up in terrible pain with the news that nothing was done.  A setback none of us saw coming.

After 4 days in the hospital, Shelly was finally able to come home.  For now, the plan is to allow a month or so for her body to heal and start another round of chemotherapy.  Once I have more information about her future treatment plans, I will share with all of you.

Thank you for your continued support, love and prayers.

~ Christy
