Shelley’s Story

Site created on July 20, 2018

UPDATE: August 30th, 2019: This morning we had coffee and a nice chat about what a beautiful Friday it is. Shelley is now in hospice care at home with her family and freinds accepting visits and loving words daily. If you are unable to visit in person please do send a note on Facebook or a private email to shelleyskempsmiles@gmail.com. We read and share everything with her. What about Shelley makes you smile?

Shelley is one of the most selfless, strong and loving people all of us know. Now it’s our turn to give her back all of that love and strength! Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Shelley was diagnosed with breast cancer as we rang in the New Year of 2015 and she has been fighting hard ever since. She remains positive, feisty and full of smiles as she is put through things many could not face. Unfortunately, cancer has spread to Shelley’s brain. She has four tumors throughout her brain but only one, about the size of a golf ball, will be removed. This requires immediate surgery to remove this largest tumor on her right cerebellum. It has rapidly inhibited the cerebral spinal fluid from draining into her spinal column. Symptoms of this shock to all of us came just a few days ago when she fell due to dizziness and lack of balance.

Shelley is on her way into work this (Saturday) morning to attempt to prepare the St Croix Falls High School for her unexpected departure. Her coworkers, the students, and her work is her passion. She is very worried to be leaving her desk to fight and recover. Shelley supports herself and her home with her work. She has extensive medical costs ahead and needs your help.
