Sheila’s Story

Site created on August 21, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Sheila has been in declining health, but things took a turn for the worse on Friday. She had a wound on her leg that was having trouble healing. She was unable to eat, walk unaided or even communicate on Friday. Joe called the ambulance and she was transported to Geissinger Community Medical Center. We hoped the antibiotics would correct the issues, but unfortunately that did not happen.  Family has been arriving from near and far. All eight children are here and have had the opportunity to say goodbye. She has been visited by many grandchildren, nieces, great grandchildren and in laws.
With great sadness, the decision was made to provide only comfort care. We are bringing her home to surround her with love and care.

Journal entry by Janey Ierubino

The end is never easy, but Sheila’s passing was beautiful. Everyone had finished dinner and the girls had applied her makeup, tanning towel, lipstick and did her nails. She was dressed in a pink shirt that complimented her complexion. She truly looked beautiful. Within 20 minutes after her makeover she opened her eyes. Unable to speak, but you could see her soul in her eyes and sense that she understood. Everyone had the opportunity to say goodbye and then she was gone. No struggle, no pain, no shortness of breath, she was just gone, surrounded in the love of her family. We’re surprised it came so soon, but thankful she did not suffer.
