Journal entry by Shawn Hughes

So...  my good friend and colleague David Anderson is in the hospital. I went to visit him today. Turns out he was in the same hospital that I had my surgery in - Medical City Plano. Wow!  He was on the same CCU floor that I was in not too long ago, and it brought back so many unpleasant and pleasant memories.

I will say that David is in for an entirely different reason, and he is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. I would ask all of you to add his family and him to your daily prayers.

You know, just being on the floor where I spent some days (sorry, but I don’t remember exactly how long) brought back a flood of memories. Wow. That was an intense period of my life.

I want to tell you all that I am so much better now - and I am so blessed for all your prayers and actions which make that possible. I still have not got around to all the thank you cards which are due to each of you during my ordeal!

All in all, this Thanksgiving is clearly a season of appreciation for me and my family. I know that life, with all its struggles and upsets, continues to go on.  And I am cognizant of the simple fact that we are only granted a limited time here on this present reality of the Earth.  But I still am amazed at how far I have come in such a short time,  and that is due to your prayers and the support of Deana and my amazing family!

I am not joking when I say that I could not have done it without you.

I AM joking when I say that seeing the CCU today made me want to strip down, and scream in pain as a nursing team attempted to change my catheter.  Ouch.

I did go visit my old room/floor. Ironically the whole thing had been moved to a new wing in the hospital. So I got to learn again - life goes on and things do indeed change. People change, and the memories we have are all we can truly hang on to.

So please, make a good memory this holiday!  I have several already.  Including the look of joy in my friend’s eyes as he reflected on the fact that he, just like me, was still on this blessed planet and alive.
