Shauna’s Story

Site created on September 23, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Shauna was diagnosed 3.5 years ago with Melanoma Stg 4 to her hip which required two surgical interventions to remove 40+ lymph nodes and has been cancer-free ever since. The cancer center found another spot on her lung that they had been monitoring with frequent PET scans of her entire body. Over the last 8 months, the scan showed this spot lit up on the PET scan and grew 1mm each month. This required a procedure called a bronchoscopy to attempt at obtaining a biopsy of this area. This procedure was unsuccessful. After this procedure, Shauna returned home. Ten days later, she returned to Cancer Treatment Center of America (CTCA) to go through another procedure in the Interventional Radiology department to attempt another biopsy and obtain a specimen. When she arrived for this procedure doctors discovered that her left lung was moderately collapsed. Therefore, she had to have a chest tube placed and she was admitted to the CTCA hospital. Upon her admission there she had a total of 3 chest tubes and another procedure which was successful at obtaining another specimen. That Friday, her doctor confirmed that indeed she had Stage 4 Melanoma in her lung. As of right now, surgery is scheduled for October 9, 2018. She is having a Wedge Resection to remove a section of her lung that contains the cancerous area. We are asking for everyone to pray for successful outcomes with her next procedure.

Within our family, we have attempted to organize and update family and close friends using this site. If you wish to assist her family in other ways, do not feel obligated, however, we organized not only up to date information regarding her progress but also meal planning and donations. Brooke (Shauna's oldest sister) will be updating this site with hour by hour, day by day information on what is going on. Heather (Shauna's younger sister) will be organizing meal planning/groceries for her and her family, even while she is in the hospital and Hannah ( the youngest sister) has set up an account at Mutual Bank (rather than a go fund me account because they take a large percent) and will be handling all donations to this account and paying hospital bills, etc directly, so Shauna does not have to have that burden. Donations can be made to any Mutual Bank location under any one of the names (Hannah Kristl, Heather Dudeck, or Brooke Whittaker) and the nicknamed account "Shauna Strong." Also, anyone who uses the "VENMO" app could send any funds to Hannah, Heather or Brooke and they will deposit the funds to the Shauna Strong account. Below you will find each sister's contact information, and information, should you need to contact them regarding further questions pertaining to this. Again, we thank you all for your prayers and assistance. Please feel free to add comments below, as we will have her check your messages, and prayers of encouragement throughout this process! Thank you!!!!!!!
