Dear community,

We have devastating news to share about our beloved friend, Shariff “Abu Shu’ayb” Mohamed.

If you know Shariff, you know his caring, community-centered heart. Perhaps you know him through his years of work on Unite Oregon’s Board of Directors, his service at the Oregon Department of Human Services and Oregon Health Authority, his generous spirit when others are in times of crisis, or his numerous contributions to the Somali and African communities. You may also have witnessed Shariff’s deep and abiding faith and his dedication to his family.

In so many ways large and small, Shariff has been there for us, and now it is time for us to be there for him and his wife, Bakol Ali.

Shariff’s sweet, two-year-old daughter, Taslim, was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Randall Children’s Hospital on Sunday after mysterious symptoms that came on suddenly. It was soon discovered that Taslim has brain cancer. Tragically, the cancer is very advanced and aggressive.

Please pray for Taslim.

As you can imagine Shariff and Bakol need to be with their daughter. They cannot be worried about finances, communicating with the people who care about them or even taking care of themselves right now. We hope you will contribute to their official fundraiser ( https://gofund.me/bec80713 ) and continue to help as needed supports emerge, including meal train, so they can keep up their strength for Taslim’s sake.

Like you, we love Shariff. Let’s show him and Bakol how much the community cares.

Please post your messages to the family and we will share your thoughts with them.

Sincerely,

Kayse Jama and Stephanie  Stephens
