Journal entry by Gary Hansen —
This will be my last post to Shar's CaringBridge. I know many of you loved her dearly, so I wanted to share the information regarding her final resting spot in case you would like to visit.
On August 17, 2020, the day after Shar would have celebrated another birthday and one year after her passing, we laid her to rest in a niche at the Garden Mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Due to the pandemic, only immediate family was present. It is a beautiful and peaceful location that I know Shar would have loved.
If you would like to visit Shar, she is in Room 107C, East Wall, Niche 76:
Garden Mausoleum
Lakewood Cemetery
3600 Hennepin Ave
Minneapolis, MN 55408
More information can be found here at the web site: lakewoodcemetery.org
A few things to know if you visit:
- Lakewood is a big place and the Garden Mausoleum is found by turning right after you enter the main gates. You can look on their website to find the exact location. You can park in front of the mausoleum once you get there.
- After taking the stairs or the elevator down to the lower level, you will enter a hallway that has the rooms with the niches. Shar's is in the first room on the left. Once you enter the room, her niche is in the right wall. It is the room with a beautiful Italian onyx floor. The kind that would always make Shar "ooh and ahh" whenever she would see it on a Parade of Homes tour. 😊
- Near the bathrooms, you will find some vases and other materials for flower preparation. If you bring flowers, you can prep them in that area and then leave them in the room near her niche. Cemetery staff will take care of removal at a later date.
- If you exit the building on the lower level, you will find a beautiful reflecting pool and garden area that is wonderful for some quiet reflection.
Take care and thank you for all of your support.
