Shannon’s Story

Site created on September 23, 2021

Dear Family and Friends of Shannon and Brad and their families!

September 27, 2021
This is our first journal post to Shannon’s CaringBridge site.  Thank you for taking the time to read and care about Shannon’s cancer journey!  We continue to be blessed by and grateful for all the support received and continued prayers for Shannon’s healing and for her family.  CaringBridge provides us the opportunity to connect and communicate with all of you…working and fighting together for Shannon.  Shannon…we promise to fight this battle with you and beside you and lift you up in prayer each and every day…and with the same grit and grace and positive attitude and gratitude you so boldly and bravely exemplify to all of us.  Truly extraordinary and inspirational!

The following is a condensed summation of Shannon’s cancer journey to-date.  We will continue to update this site as treatment and outcomes progress throughout the fall/winter and beyond.

May 2019 – June 2021
As most of you may know, Shannon was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma to her right forearm in May 2019.  She immediately began treatment at the University of Minnesota (UoM) involving several months of chemotherapy followed by a successful tumor removal in the fall of 2019 and then more chemotherapy.  Also, in October 2019, Shannon led an AMAZING TeamShannon Sarcoma Walk in St. Louis raising over $10K in less than a month.  In February 2020, Shannon finished all treatments and was cancer-free on CT.  For the next year and a half, Shannon fully resumed her active life with family, school, community, friends, etc.

June 2021 – September 2021
In early June, Shannon received report that a lung nodule was found on routine CT in the right lower lobe of lung.  Nodule continued to grow over the next two (2) months and thus tumor was removed with clean margins on Monday, August 30.  Following surgery and within about a week, Shannon began experiencing vision issues to her right eye.  On Thursday, September 16, MRI of her brain showed three (3) lesions and a mass on her left occipital lobe.  She was admitted to University of Minnesota for further examination and treatment.  On Friday, September 17, testing showed new spots in her lung, enlarged lymph node and a mass in the liver.  An immediate treatment plan was discussed and determined by Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Neurosurgery.  On Monday, September 20, Shannon began outpatient radiation (total of five (5) sessions) and received her first chemotherapy infusion.  She did GREAT with all, went home to Bryant, SD on Friday, September 24, had a great weekend with her family and resumed work today!  Follow-up CT, labs and Oncology appointment at UoM in three (3) weeks.

Hoping and praying for more good news to follow!  We ask for prayers of healing for Shannon and our family!  Blessings and Wishes to You for your and your families’ safety, health and happiness!!

With Love, The Jacobson, Ries, Murphy, Pugliano Family
