Shane’s Story

Site created on April 21, 2019

Welcome to our CareBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

As you may know, earlier this month Shane visited a Gastroenterologist as a result of stomach issues and was shocked with the news following colonoscopy that a tumor was found. Just a few short days later we learned the tumor was cancerous. With no time to digest, Shane was immediately admitted to Sloan Kettering for possible surgery as the tumor was in a vulnerable place. In preparation for surgery tests showed that the tumor had spread to his liver. This put the surgery on hold until plans could be made for chemotherapy and consultation with a liver surgeon. This awful news was bittersweet, as Shane was then discharged and able to be in the comfort of his own home surrounded by the love and support of his amazing family. This coming week, beginning Monday, April 22 Shane will meet with his Doctors at Sloan Kettering to finalize plans for his ongoing treatment and recovery.

Kara and the kids are doing amazingly well. Mattea and Phinn were aware that Dada was in the hospital and that although he is home now, that he will likely be more sick before he gets better. They are tasked with giving Dada "love medicine" which they are taking very seriously. Kara is staying strong and taking one day at a time as she and the rest of the family digest this shocking news.

This is a difficult time for everyone as Shane is so dearly loved. There is not a doubt in our mind that Shane will come out of this stronger than ever but the journey to kick cancer's ass has just begun and there's a long road ahead. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement and we encourage you to give Shane and his family as much love medicine as you can. We got this!
