It’s been a long time coming, but we were waiting for good news and good things to update so...here we go.
We moved from Emory University ICU to the Emory LTAC facility on 5/20/21 and we made a good amount of progress there.
Fortunately, we were able to skedaddle out of there quickly and be transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta on the 28th of May. Just in time to settle in for the holiday weekend and as the kids finished up school.
We were moved to a private room because Steve's white blood count was low, and they didn't want any additional infection (like a cold or the flu) to get to him. We were confined to the room for nearly 2 weeks!!!!!! Ugh. We are now off precautions and can finally leave our room {with masks in place} and have ventured out to the beautiful garden below our windows. Although it’s 89° and 99% humidity in Atlanta, it’s still nice to breathe some fresh air. 

Steve received some Botox injections in his arm and leg to relieve some of the tension in those muscles and then they casted the left arm this week. This makes sure he’ll have some flexibility in the joint and it doesn’t freeze up.

Occupational therapy, speech therapy, dog therapy, physical therapy are all ongoing every day except Sunday. So he’s working HARD every day.

He is happy and calm —as his usual, genial self—but can’t wait to sleep in his own bed and make his body listen to him! So keep those prayers coming! Feel free to send him notes to the hospital (we didn’t know this was possible-but got our first card there this week) or to the house and I’ll bring it to him.
Sundays are rest days, so we are relaxing together as we gear up for another big week of therapy and such!
