Scott’s Story

Site created on January 14, 2020

Hi! Welcome to Scott’s page. Here you will find updates about this new season for Scott and his family as he battles cancer. We don’t want this page to just be for updates though - we want to open about this journey...the hardships, the joys, and everything in between because there is power in linking arms with all of you and walking through this together. We cherish your prayers, words of encouragement, and support. Thanks for visiting and joining us in the fight.

Here is a short update on our family.

We have just reached the 10 month date of Scott’s passing from this life into Heaven. In many ways it is harder now than it was right after his death.  The shock has worn off and we are now entering the season of year when he was the sickest.

We have spent the last months finding our new place in our world without his smile, laughter and wisdom.  It has been difficult and long, but I am prouder of my little family today than I ever have been. We have succeeded in giving each other the grace and permission to grieve in our own individual ways without a lot of judgement or criticism.  Not easy when we all lost someone who was so individual and intentional in his relationship with each of us.  For me, the mom, I think I have maybe saved up some of my grief for now when the season is the same as it was when he was especially ill and because I really needed to make sure my kids were ok. My counselor has explained that when you begin feeling, smelling and seeing things that occurred around the time of death these things often will be “triggers” that set off a wave of grief.  We are finding this to be true.

So, needless to say, the last couple of months have been harder in some ways than the right afterward months.  I have learned that Sundays are especially difficult, but I also know that this will get better over time. God has been faithful in every part of the last many months and he will continue to be faithful.  For this we are all so thankful.

One of our greatest gifts during the last year has been our community of friends. HIS grace and mercy have been poured out on our family through you all.  We are eager to gather our family and friends together to honor Scott and celebrate his life so we are starting to plan.  Saturday, May 15th at 1 o’clock we would like to gather at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church to celebrate Scott’s life and be together. We feel the time is right.

Please join us.

Love to you all,

Ann and Family
