A wonderful group of friends is guiding me through this social media process. See below:

Award winning bass player Sarah Brown has liver failure due to a non-alcoholic autoimmune disease and needs a lifesaving liver donation.

About Sarah:

Beloved Austinite, Sarah Brown, is a bassist, songwriter, and recording artist who has worked extensively with Blues legends and Americana artists across the globe for over 40 years.

In 2017 she was hospitalized due to severe stomach pain. Doctors removed her gall bladder and found scarring in her bile ducts. Sarah was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune disease PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis). As of 2023, Sarah’s been hospitalized 7 times with worsening conditions and irreparable damage to her liver. The cause of PSC is unknown, and the only cure is a liver transplant.

Unfailingly humble and generous, Sarah let us make a FB page with the caveat that it benefits ALL people on the national liver waiting list, by spreading awareness and educating people about live donor transplants.

Here are some quick facts about Living Liver Donation:

-More than 11,000 people are on the national liver transplant waiting list.

-Nearly 20 people die each day while waiting for a lifesaving organ. A healthy person can safely donate up to 70% of their liver.

-The liver has the amazing ability to grow or regenerate within a few weeks.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Virginia Fleck

Hello dearest relatives and pals of my sister Sarah Brown.

Here’s the news we’ve all been waiting for !!!
Sarah will receive the lobe of a donor’s healthy liver on Thursday, Jan 18, 2024,
beginning at 5:30 am, at University Hospital in San Antonio,Texas.
Our gratitude to her donor is endless….
John sent me an email a few days ago:
“We went to the transplant center yesterday and met with Sarah's transplant surgeon.
He and the surgeon he teams with are trained in partial transplants and do one or more a
week, which is what you want in surgeons. Sarah's will be routine….
This is a low-risk transplant. The chance something terrible goes wrong is 1 to 3%”
There is a strong team of dear friends to support both Sarah and John.
I will post updates to reach as many folks as possible here, Facebook, Messenger and email.
Sarah sounded very strong and upbeat when I spoke with her just now, she's ready to ace this one!!
Love to all,
Kate
