Sandy’s Story

Site created on March 4, 2019

On the morning of Thursday, February 28, 2019, Sandy's daughter, Amy, drove her to the ER after she experienced a fall. Sandy had been experiencing bouts of dizziness that was causing her to fall regularly. At first, doctors diagnosed her with an inner ear infection, but the dizzy spells and falls continued. She was given a walker, but was falling with that, as well. Prior to these dizzy spells, Sandy was active and healthy, taking regular walks on the treadmill in her apartment building.  Finally, at this particular ER visit, she demanded a scan of her brain, sensing that something was not right with her head. It was at this time that doctors discovered a 1" brain tumor. Over the next two days, Sandy underwent multiple tests (CT scans and MRI). A 4.5 cm tumor was found in her right lung, as well as a tumor in her trachea, and three additional smaller tumors in her brain.  After a biopsy on her lung, doctors concluded that Sandy has Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer. Essentially, lung cancer that has spread to other parts of her body, including her brain. Sandy will begin vigorous treatment immediately to try and get rid of as much of the cancer as possible. We appreciate all of the visitors, kind words of support, and prayers that are being offered to Sandy and the rest of the family. Please keep them coming!

For those of you who have been reading Sandy's Caring Bridge but aren't necessarily connected to the family via Facebook, I wanted to share some extremely sad news.

Sandy lost her daughter, Amy Beth Greising, on Thursday, December 5th after a brief and sudden illness. As you can imagine, we are all extremely devastated.

Please reach out to Sandy during this difficult time. She began hospice care on Friday, and we are grateful that she is getting the services she needs, especially during such a trying time.

For those of you who knew Amy or would like to offer support to Sandy, Amy's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 11 a.m. at Evangel United Methodist Church, 2645 N Broadway Ave, Rochester, MN 55906.
