Journal entry by Annie Quirk

1 year, 4 months, 24 days.  509 days.

That’s all the time we got from when she was diagnosed. They warned us that most AML patients over the age of 60 die within two years. I was really, really hoping for two years. 😔

Mom passed away in the morning of Monday, February 28th, 2022. She was at Froedtert.

The doctor called me just past 6am to say the night nurse found her unresponsive with no pulse when they checked on her at 6am. They performed CPR for 13 minutes. They shocked her three times. They were able to restart her heart, but only briefly. They believe she either had a heart attack, a stroke, or possibly threw a clot. We chose not to do an autopsy.

We are heartbroken. The matriarch of our family, the glue that holds us together, is gone. The nurses were crying. We were crying. Mom’s oncologist called me and she was crying. I have gotten no less than 5 texts and messages from nurses that cared for her. She was so, so loved.

Here is the funeral information. There will be dinner after the service if you’d like to stay. We’d love to celebrate Mom’s life with you.
