Sandy’s Story

Site created on June 30, 2021

I had a CT scan for pelvic pain on April 1st. The scan found an area of inflammation on my right side. I had a negative pelvic ultrasound the following day. I was put on antibiotics for the inflammation. I had previously already scheduled a consultation for April 30th at MNGI for a routine colonoscopy and was inquiring about having them "fix" some other things during the colonoscopy.  I went to that appointment and explained my current situation of pain, and they suggested a colonoscopy be done next. I scheduled the colonoscopy for the beginning of June, which I had to reschedule due to one of the girls being exposed to a positive COVID classmate. So on June 18th I had my colonoscopy. As soon as I was awake, the doctor told me I had a cancerous tumor and that I needed to get a chest CT done yet that day to look for metastasis. Thankfully, the CT of my chest was clear. I had my first appointments at Mayo on July 1st and 2nd and additional imaging was done to stage the cancer. At this point, I am waiting for July 13th when I will meet with my oncologist, surgeon, and GI doctor. They will meet as a team and come up with a plan.

I have been dreading this day, but knew it was a possibility for awhile. It comes with great sadness to let you know Sandy gained her wings this afternoon. The only comfort in this is knowing that she is no longer in any pain. She gave 110% to this valiant fight like everything she did. We can't begin to tell you all how much your prayers and well wishes meant to our family, and we know it meant the world to Sandy!

Rest in peace Luv,

We miss you so much already. 💔
