The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong published the following:
Dear AmCham Women of Influence Committee Members and Friends,
The Women of Influence (WOI) Steering Committee of The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Sandra Lee Walters, our 2016 WOI Master of the Arts awardee, on January 30th in Paris, France.
Sandra Walters was a force in Hong Kong’s contemporary art scene for over four decades and nurtured the careers of many local artists. She was co-owner and director of two of Hong Kong’s leading art galleries, Alisan Fine Arts and Mandarin Oriental Fine Arts. Later she established Sandra Walters Consultancy Ltd., advising hotels, corporations, professional firms and collectors on acquisition, display and maintenance of artworks.
Sandra was a frequent lecturer on collecting, investing and arts management. She served on the Board of Governors for the Hong Kong Arts Administrators’ Association, Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Public Art Board.
Reflecting their decision to honor Sandra as the 2016 Master of the Arts, the judges noted:
“Sandra is a true pioneer and trailblazer in the Hong Kong arts scene.”
“Sandra has supported the arts and artists in Hong Kong in so many ways -- as gallery owner, curator and advisor, and in countless volunteer activities.”
“Her role as art consultant to major hotel and real estate groups and promotion of local Hong Kong artists enabled many to pursue art careers full time.”
“Beyond the arts, Sandra has been a stellar role model for women, becoming the first woman in the Rotary Club of Hong Kong and its first female President.”
“She has been influential in the community as Fine Arts Adjudicator of prestigious arts awards and as a mentor to emerging artists.”
“Her deep insights and experience in the arts and culture…appear exceeded only by her boundless energy and focused passion.”
We send deepest condolences to Sandra’s family, including her husband, Richard, children and grandchildren. WOI are honored to have recognized Sandra as an exemplary woman of influence, and proud to celebrate her generous and boundless spirit, many accomplishments and contributions to our community.
