Sandra’s Story

Site created on September 27, 2018

In September of 2018 I started to experience some strange symptoms which  indicated that something was not quite right.  I didn’t put much thought into it until my husband Rick and I were on vacation and the symptoms worsened.  Under doctor’s advice I got a biopsy in my brain, and the doctors have identified the masses as a gliobastoma, which is the same kind of tumor that John McCain had.  In early October I will begin to undergo radiation and chemotherapy treatments as I fight this with all of my will.  I ask for your support in any way you can provide it during this challenging phase of our lives.  Thank you and God Bless each of you for your efforts to support me.

Journal entry by Sandra Ballard

Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2018.

Met with my doctor who will oversee this process for the first time this morning. Dr. Mohamed Hamza, a very well respected neurosurgeon in the field. It was a very early morning, but Rick managed to fight through the early morning traffic and get us there on time.  My son Lincoln and daughter Kelly were also there as we looked at the MRI scans of my brain and learned what the coming months hold. It’s hard for all of us to comprehend what we are going through at this time, but I am thankful that my family is here with me and so loving and supportive.  There will be good days and harder days, but I vow to fight this with God as my witness and my family as my rock.  Day 1 complete!
