Samuel’s Story

Site created on January 23, 2013

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.  kristenrclark@comcast.net  or mykclark123@gmail.com Sammy was born on September 24. He was 6 lbs 1 oz at birth. He gained weight slowly but gained for the first two months. Never quite enough to make the doctors happy though. We have been going to the doctor and lactation specialists every week. We have had numerous feeding plans, but he stopped gaining and then started loosing weight. After some blood and stool tests at the pediatrician office we got a call the next morning at 7 saying we should go to the ER. That was January 19. We were in the hospital in Portland for a week and then got sent to Seattle while the doctors are trying to figure out what is causing Sammy to be in liver failure.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kristen Clark

We have good news!! All the test and lab reports are back. The EBV levels they saw last time came back undetectable. Liver numbers have stayed great without the immunosuppressant. The pathologists that studied the slides from the tonsils and andenoids said everything is fine. All this is good news. No more talk about appointments with oncologists. We are still doing weekly labs to watch liver numbers and to make sure nothing else shows up. There were some abnormal cells that the nurse mentioned, which sounds scary to me, but she said it isn’t something that they are concerned about right now. Honestly, I don’t really understand this part and it still feels stressful. I am hoping over vacation I will have time to talk to our nurse in Seattle to get a clear understanding of what abnormal cells are all about and any next steps for Sammy.

Sammy was out of school for a week and a half and pretty miserable for a week of that time. He is been back to normal now.  His humor is back and he can’t wait for Christmas.

Thanks again for all your support, prayers, and positive thoughts sent our way. It makes such a big difference for us.

We hope you all have healthy, happy holidays!
