As many of you know , Sam was going into his Junior year at RIT in Rochester, NY for computer science. This summer he lived in Rochester working on an internship with a local IT company.

On Friday, August 3rd Sam was hit by a car while going through an intersection on his bike.  EMS was immediatly called and he was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester, NY.  With in one hour of the accident, Sam was in the OR having surgery to repair damaged blood vessels in his head and to relieve the pressure which was increasing as a result of the bleeds.  They put in a breathing tube and he was brought to the Neuro ICU.

Over the next several days Sam was treated for unstable blood pressures, brain swelling, high fever and pneumonia in the neuro-ICU at Strong.  The surgeons, doctors, and nurses provided excellent care and Sam came through that initial critical period; however at this point he is still in a coma and on a ventilator.

Going forward, the ultimate plan is to transfer him to Spaulding Rehab Center in Boston, Mass.  This will tak at least a week to get him to the point that he is stable enought for this to happen.  His left side is affected the most.  His right side is moving and his neuro checks are improving, albeit slowly.  Our obvious hope is that he wakes up soon!  He has alot of family at his side 24/7 and seems to respond to  words and touch.
