Sam’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2014

Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma stage llA on August 26, 2014.  Two weeks prior to this, Sam had noticed a lump on her neck while at Valleyfair and she also had had a cough for a couple of weeks. We went to our family physician and he was very concerned and suspected lymphoma.  Thankfully, we were able to see specialists quickly leading to a week of tests, biopsies, scans and ultimately a diagnosis and our first oncology appointment.  Sam is being cared for by an excellent team at Minneapolis Children's Specialty Clinics led by Dr. Bruce Bostrom.

We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support, generosity, and prayers from family and friends.  We ask that you keep Sam and our family in your thoughts and prayers as we continue on this journey.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sandy Sutter

It's hard to believe, but December 3, 2019 marked five years in remission for Sam.  She celebrated the day by snowboarding at Afton Alps. We are hopeful for many more remission anniversaries.  Sam is grappling with the recent loss of a young cancer friend in a long list of losses to cancer. Our family is also grieving the loss of our sweet dog, Jane. We had to put her down at the end of September after sixteen and half wonderful years. We miss her terribly. We know that many of you continue to keep Sam in your prayers and we are eternally grateful.  Wishing you all the best during this holiday season! The Sutters
