Day 36

Sammie is continuing to make excellent progress. She is walking on her own everywhere in the house and probably could most places but she is a little scared of getting bumped and losing her balance. So she does use the walker in busy places. She went to see Maya play volleyball yesterday and saw her own team as well. I think it was a bit emotional for her seeing everyone playing and knowing she was supposed to be there as well. She could not even go watch her old team so most of them came to see her. This was supposed to be her final fun year of volleyball with her best friend playing on the team. And they had so many out of town tournaments they were going to. I know that can seem so minor in what she went through with the accident but it was just another thing taken from her when she already lost so much. Now I made myself cry. It comes in waves and at different times. But honestly we are so lucky and blessed. Sammie got her 19th day of Christmas gift and the wonderful moms got all 4 of them "squad" necklaces. They are so cute and they wore them all to the party later. I am so happy my girl has her squad back!!

So.... apparently living off Dr Pepper and pretty much nothing else for 5 weeks is not a good thing. I have been experiencing numbness in my feet and it's awful and I cannot sleep. Friday night was the worst so I finally went to the doctor Saturday morning and as i suspected they checked me into the hospital. Diagnosis: malnutrition with dangerously low levels of potassium and magnesium. So I got put on a potassium drip for 3 hours- I don't recommend them, my arm felt like it was burning the entire time. Then another 3 hours of a magnesium drip. I had to do a stress test on my heart. I had to walk jog for 15 minutes and at one point I was on a 20 percent incline. I felt like I was back at orange theory and I was going to fall right off the treadmill. Who knew you could get out of shape that fast! So I did not want to share this news-at all. I still don't want to talk about as no one but my direct family was supposed to know. I just don't want people worrying about me when they have already been so generous to our family. But the girls must have said something because I started getting texts last night asking about it so I figured I would just address it here so everyone knows what happened. I am totally fine and am now a 45 year old getting yelled at by her mother and calling me after every meal asking specifically what I ate. Good times here. Please do not be offended if I did not tell you. I swore Steven to secrecy and did not want anyone knowing even my close friends. We have been through so much that the last thing I needed was people worrying about me.

So I was home by Sunday and got to watch Maya play volleyball in the morning and then attend a lovely holiday get together in the evening. The holiday party was for families of those affected by the accident. It was amazing to see how many people's lives these 5 kids affected. I got to hug and cry with 3 of the moms who also had kids in the car with Sammie. Sammie got to finally see A and say hello. It was just an emotional yet wonderful night to see all that love in one place. Thank you to everyone there for such a special evening.

Happy holidays and love to you all.
