Journal entry by Suja Jacob —
Sorry for the long time with no updates, Sam has been just quietly moving along getting a little bit stronger everyday. He has started outpatient physical therapy to work on his balance and coordination and he has been driving himself there! The ability to drive again has meant a lot and has given him the freedom to leave the house . For someone who hates sitting in one place too long, this has been huge comfort.
Speaking of getting out, he also got his G tube taken out. In case you were wondering, they just pull it out and literally just leave a hole in your stomach letting it heal on its own. I tried talking him into drinking a bunch of water and pushing his stomach out so he could be a human fountain but he declined🤷🏽♀️. The same day he got the tube out, Donna Beasley and the Murdoch clinic and nursing staff sent us a huge feast with dessert so we had plenty of food to celebrate. Friends and coworkers continue to astonish us with their love and support.
Sam also had a follow up with the neurosurgeon. We saw the mri which showed a gaping space where the tumor used to be. This left him open for many jokes from me about having a hole in his head…. I jest but know all too well what a miracle it is that he is here with us today. Unfortunately , there has not been much progress getting back movement on the left side of his face so we are going to look into getting a weight put in his eyelid to help with closing the eye as well as some type of facial therapy to help stimulate the nerves.
We are so blessed by you all and have come this far by God’s grace. We will keep pressing on and in all things be grateful.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Sam's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
