Journal entry by Sam Engel

Hello All,
So, I am starting this site to let everyone know what is going on with me.  A month ago I went into the ER with stomach pain only to find out I had a perforated colon from diverticulitis.  The next day I underwent surgery.  Instead of removing a portion of my colon, the surgeon decided to "wash out" my stomach and stitch me back up.  After 3 days in the hospital, I was sent back home only to return 12 hours later with more stomach pain.  This led to another procedure that drained an abscess in my belly and placed a drain in there to be my constant companion for the next 2 mo.  Actually, they thought they were going to take it out in two weeks, but after going back for a follow-up CT scan that showed my colon still perforated, I found new doctors who are having me keep it in until they perform surgery to remove part of my colon.  Good times, I know.  This is not even the best part. I herniated my low back disc at the beginning of the school year and the pain from that has been next level.  With the two injuries, I am pretty much bedridden.  Which makes it hard because I am trying to regain strength and weight before my upcoming surgery.  Luckily, I have the best support team in the world who make sure my kids don't want for anything and I am well fed.  With that said, I could always use some company as I sit on my butt and wait for my upcoming surgery. Also, if anyone loves yardwork, Alisha's house, with the massive maple trees, could use some TLC!
