Welcome to my CaringBridge site!

I was diagnosed with APL leukemia on July 3rd, 2019.

This will be my way of easily updating my loved ones of my condition, treatment, etc!

Journal entry by Sam Casson

Week 2 of consolidation chemo is a wrap. Two more weeks and then I’ll have my 4 weeks off of the infusions while still taking the pills in 14 day cycles.

By now, from my hospital stay til present, I have had 32 arsenic infusions and god knows how many chemo pills and other meds... and lots lots more to go of both in the months to come. If my calculations are correct, consolidation should end around April.

The laundry lists of side effects continue (many the same, some new)  and I’m still processing everything. Weird to think that it’s still been less than 2 months since my diagnosis.

Happy to say that for the most part, we are all getting into more of a routine with my treatments and how much I can do daily before I crash. Spoiler alert: it’s not much. But I’m learning to listen to my body and not push too much. I feel like a bum half the time, and like I bore those around me to death, but when I think about these next 7 ish months, in the grand scheme of my life/our lives, being a boring bum is worth it. I’m alive.

Thank you again to everyone for reaching out and offering rides and meals (both of which we are good on 😊) and supporting all of us with your love and positive vibes. Trust me when I say it is a huge help!
