Newest Update

Journal entry by Nikki Mastbergen

Hello everyone! It’s been a busy few weeks getting caught up with at home life and appointments but I thought I’d give an update. Sadie is still doing pt/OT twice a week for the left sided weakness, she still has to wear a brace on that side but is improving every time we go. Since being home we have had a few falls and have finally figured out that this is because of her eyes not being 100 (because of the surgery and healing). We were told that even just a little head turn can throw her equilibrium off. Since my last update we have seen DR Roby (ENT), she said Sadie eye is healing great but wanted us to continue nasal sprays for another 6 weeks. Sadie had her staples removed and her incision is healing wonderfully. The major things we have been experiencing at home are more emotional things. Sadie’s brain is trying to process the last month and without all of the pieces to the story she is left confused. We have talked to a child psychologist who said that the first 90-120 days after a traumatic event “the dust is settling”. So these emotions and reactions, although unusual for Sadie before this event, are completely normal. Sadie is also having some anxiety and panic attacks when we need to do any medical events, from a blood draw to the staples being removed. We will re-asses her emotional state in the next few months. We had our MRI follow up yesterday and Sadie got to pick out this cool gown   (veterinarian)::picture::
We also have had to take two trips to the ER. The first because she had been itching her head and opened up her incision. They sewed it shut and it’s healing perfectly. The second (today), ::picture::when We woke up to find her PICC line had been pulled out. They removed the rest of it and decided we still would need it for the rest of the two weeks. So they had to place another picc line this time on the left arm.
Thank you all for your continued prayers.
