Journal entry by Lynn Richards

A bit more information.

All of mom’s blood work and scans (multiple) pointed to cancer. And there was this big mass on her pancreas, which drs said is a 95% chance of cancer. Wednesday night they removed the mass (bc it was blocking her liver) and it was a smooth stone. Drs said it didn’t look at all like cancer. AND they checked out her pancreas and it looked good- no cancer. There was a 5% chance it wasn’t pancreatic cancer and apparently she was that 5%. Wow.

Her blood work still shows cancer. She had a lung biopsy yesterday. There are masses there. And there are still spots (???) on the liver. And when they took the mass from the pancreas on Wednesday, drs went in through her throat, and her esophagus looked funky so they took a biopsy of that too.

The drs said that the pain in her chest that sent her to the hospital on Monday could be “referred pain.” Maybe all of this is from the stone they removed from her liver. Maybe it’s very good news bc the pain from the stone was the catalyst for finding the lung cancer. We need more data and analysis but this is great news- it’s now very likely (definitive?) that she doesn’t have pancreatic cancer.

So Mom is not dying in a few weeks. Yesterday morning we were planning her funeral and today she is talking about her winter show schedule. Dear god- my Mom is crazy.

Mom is home now from the hospital and is “sore as hell.” And she is in great spirits. This is great news for us to celebrate. But what a wild week.
