Ryan’s Story

Site created on December 9, 2020

On December 8th, 2020, Ryan was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. It was discovered that he had suffered an aneurysm that had burst causing bleeding in his brain. That day he endured a six hour surgery to repair the aneurysm and remove what they could of the blood that had collected. Thanks to Ryan's never ending spirit and strength along with the surgery team, he made it through surgery. This journey that he is going to be on is going to be a long road. He will need as much support as he can get.

Journal entry by Megan Surber

Due to the current circumstances of covid a memorial service will be held in late May/early June in the Iowa City area. I understand that there are mixed feelings related to the changes covid has placed on us as a nation. I personally have seen the devastating effects of holding a large in person gathering at this time. So with that in mind and the condition and safety of my mother and others, the services will be later. More details will follow closer to that time. Thank you to everyone who continues to be there supporting us.
