Cara, you so beautifully shared your and Dewayne’s strength in Christ and perseverance through this journey! It was a privilege to lift Dewayne in prayer and get a small glimpse of who he was and you and your children as well! I give God praise for allowing us to connect through other sisters/brothers in Christ and share each other’s testimonies & examples of what loving God looks like! My prayers will continue for you and your children to find your way through this new chapter of living! Stay strong in the Lord my friend!

DeWayne was one of a kind, the definitive example of a truly caring, all around nice guy. His sense of humor was "always on" and he was perhaps the most positive thinking person I've ever known. He will be sorely missed. You and yours are in my prayers, Cara.

I pray that God wraps his loving arms around all that loved DeWayne and brings peace and comfort. DeWayne had such a beautiful spirit that will be missed by so many. I am so glad to have met DeWayne through running so many, many years ago. Love and prayers to all.

I was lucky enough to know DeWayne both thru our work and on the trails. I could never be the runner he was,, struggling to finish ultras he breezed thru. But you would never know that as DeWayne treated everyone who ran those trails as a peer and a friend, encouraging, interested in our progress, and always willing to help. At work we both worked on shared projects but from different frames of reference. I learned to pay attention to the technical issues he was focused on as those often became the programmatic problems on my plate, especially if his concerns weren’t addressed when raised. We were at a technical review a few days after his last 100 mile run and he joked with me about being tired and that he should have taken off a few days to rest after that race. Little did either of us know that would be our last conversation but it was and I’ll treasure those moments and all the ones I shared with him.

It was always a thrill to see DeWayne run. I watched him climb that gate during Mountain Mist many times. And it was an honor to know him. I will remember his smile and the love that he had for God and his family. Thank you Cara for your beautiful tribute.

I am so sorry for your loss. I posted previously that I was dedicating one of my miles in the Delano 12 Hour race to Dwight and then found out before the race that he was gone. We weren't really friends, I just knew him as part of our local running community and admired him from afar as a great running inspiration as well as an honestly terrific person. I know he was in the hearts and thoughts of many of us during the race.
