Rucker’s Story

Site created on July 2, 2018

What was once created as way to keep friends and family updated on our son Rucker's battle against Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma ("SEF"), this page is now dedicated in Rucker's memory after he passed away at the age of 6 years old on October 29, 2020. These posts tell the story of Rucker's brave 29-month battle with Stage IV SEF, a very rare soft tissue sarcoma for which we were told there there was no known cure.  Despite those odds, we fought every single day to find the next best treatment for Rucker and vowed to leave no stone unturned.  Through all of the hospital admissions, surgeries, prods, pokes, scans, chemos, radiation, immunotherapies, and whatever else was thrown at him, Rucker endured it all with strength, kindness, love and a sense of humor.  He was an inspiration and friend to so many and, simply put, to know him was to love him.

Although Rucker's battle did not end the way that we had hoped, we continue to fight the war in Rucker's memory and we are committed to finding a cure for SEF. As Rucker would say, "that's easy peasy."  We appreciate everyone who has visited and supported us over these last few years. We hope that you will remember Rucker for the sweet and brave soul that he was, and that you will continue to support us as we do our best to fight on and carry out his legacy.
