Rowland’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Sunday, September 2, Rowland had a stroke while attending church services.  Some members of the ward recognized that he was having troubles and ultimately got him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a stroke that has affected the left side of his body.  We are so grateful for their quick action, which  minimized the severity of stroke, and has led to a much better outlook for recovery.  He is currently (as of Sept 9) at the University of Utah hospital where he is going through 3 - 4 weeks of intensive physical therapy.    There is a lot that we don't know yet about the future, but we do know he has been progressing well, and is very appreciative of the comments, thoughts and prayers.

Your visits and calls are also appreciated.  You can call either Suzanne or Scott to coordinate either.  Suzanne: 801-898-8605 | Scott: 425-246-1724.

Journal entry by Megan Dillon

After a tough weekend with an infection and later a mystery fever, Rowland is doing much better.  He is getting more feeling, though still very limited, back in his left side.  He’s been working hard every day to maintain his center of balance while sitting or standing for brief periods as well.

Over the last couple weeks, the feeding tube has been removed, and he has been able to finally (!) enjoy that Diet Coke.  Eating is a tough process, but he is really trying to get it all done right.  We’ve been able to eat lunch outside and also listen to the pianist in the lobby of the hospital.  Today his personal wheelchair arrived to his hospital room, and the doctors are saying he will most likely be discharged on October 3rd.

When Rowland is discharged he will be leaving immediately for Southern California to live with his son, Scott.   For those that would like to visit over the next week, coming after 4pm would be best.  He is a busy man during the day!
