Rose Marie’s Story

Site created on November 14, 2021

Hello Amazing Family and Friends,

Our wife/mom is recovering from open heart surgery and we welcome your love and prayers. This snuck up on her so we are sure it is somewhat of a surprise to you as well. For the last couple of months-- and certainly the the last couple of weeks, she was more short of breath with very minimal activity. It turns out that not only was she struggling with atrial fibrillation, but she also had two heart valves that were not functioning well. On November 10th she had open heart surgery to replace a valve, to repair another valve, and to try and stop the atrial fibrillation. It was a big surgery and there have been some setbacks in the days following the procedure. At this point we are cautiously optimistic that she is heading down a road of slow and steady recovery. We thank you for your prayers and well-wishes and we invite your ongoing love and support.

With gratitude,
Perk (Pops), Kathleen & Stan, Melissa & Jim, Jim & Katie, and Kelli & Drew (and our loving children)

Journal entry by Kelli O'Laughlin

Happy new year!!! 2021 certainly brought challenges for our family. We are incredibly grateful that 2022 is off to a great start. Mom has been going on short walks outside with Pops and today she started “cardiac rehab” at OHSU which she will attend 3 times per week. Very exciting!! She is hoping that rehab along with encouragement from Coach Perk will get her back to “normal”. May 2022 bring you all health, love and happiness. Xoxoxoxo
