Roquel’s Story

Site created on July 18, 2014

We unfortunately are  experiencing a re-occurrence of my cancer 12-2019 and we have some new  updates for you.  Here's my story below of the first go around but look at the most recent journals to see  the  updates!

“Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thess. 5:16-18

I was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma otherwise known as Breast Cancer. For what ever the reason is, God has allowed this season to enter into my life. One of disbelief and pain but the above verse is what I'm holding onto. I'm pretty certain that cancer is not God's will but I will be joyful in it, pray in it and give thanks in it, I believe that's His will for me.  I've seen His hand of protection, provision and proving a community that will help me get from step A to step B. I'm so grateful for that!  I trust Him completely and know that I will come out of this a more complete woman of God than I am today.

Everything is happening faster than my mind can keep up with and to complicate things I have an inflamed gallbladder that needs to come out before we start anything. I'm having a third biopsy done next Tuesday and surgery to take the gall bladder out may be as early as next Friday the 25th. Yeah my head is spinning and trying to prepare both at work and home. I wish I could just drag my feet a bit and say "wait a minute, wait a minute" like the child who knows the shot is coming and trying to some how convince the adults that it's really not necessary.

The plan is to start an intense eight week chemo treatment around the middle of August immediately followed by another 12 weeks of a milder chemo. Surgery to remove the tumor won't be until sometime in February. I can't tell you how scared and concerned I am about the first eight weeks of chemo but I know I'll somehow get through it. If you know me, you know I hate to be sick, I usually do everything I can to not catch a virus because I hate to be down.

Thank you to those who have offered friends' phone numbers who have been through this before. I can't even wrap my mind around losing my hair and being cut off from my day to day usual stuff.  Thank you for all those who have said if I need anything to let them know. I think I will be taking you up on it! I'll keep you posted as I maneuver through this journey.

Please pray for the following:

- That my body will heal quickly from gallbladder surgery.
- That my kids continue to stay strong and be mindful that I need their help.
- For my husband to continue to be strong for the kids and I.
- That I can be at peace with the hair loss, sounds silly but pretty traumatizing to me right now. Where do I purchase scarfs, hats and wigs...ugh.
Thank you for your prayers. I am so blessed to have all of you in my life and so grateful for you!

In Him,

Roquel

We know that her memorial would have been packed with the many people she loved and lives she touched. Due to COVID we are holding an intimate service. We are so grateful we get to use Facebook live to share this moment with all of you at the very least!
