Journal entry by Ashley Elsasser —
We buried my Dad this past Monday, May 18, in a simple, yet perfect, graveside service. It was just my Mom, my family, Raegan's family, and two of Dad's sisters and the children that drove them. My Mom's pastor said a few words, each of the grand kids either read a letter to Dad, read a poem, or wrote him a song. Raegan and I each read a letter, and Scott sang a song. The service was very simple, and we all felt like we had the chance to say a really meaningful goodbye.
One of the things we had to figure out as part of the funeral arrangements was what we would bury Dad in, and I think we came up with the perfect solution. We all agreed that Dad wasn't really a fancy-suit kind of guy. His favorite t-shirt was one that I helped the grand kids make several years ago that said "Best Paw Paw Ever" and featured all of their hand prints. I hope he smiled down from Heaven when he saw the outfit we chose.
Many of you have asked about whether or not we are planning to have some sort of service down the road, and the answer is "yes." We are monitoring the Covid-19 situation closely, and as soon as the restrictions are lifted on large gatherings, we will have a celebration of life. We'll post the information here and on Facebook...so stay tuned.
We continue to be overwhelmed by all the calls, cards, texts, and emails. Thank you for loving my family and supporting us during this difficult time.

I've included several pictures from the graveside service as well as a picture of my Dad the day we gave him the shirt we buried him in.
