Rodney’s Story

Site created on December 21, 2020

On November 21st, Rodney began showing symptoms of Covid-19. He managed the symptoms on his own for the first 10 days, but then a drastic change sent him to the ER. On December 3rd, he was diagnosed officially with Covid-19. His oxygen demand increased rapidly and was transferred to the Covid-ICU on December 4th.

This virus worked very quickly and aggressively in his body; it was destroying his lungs. He became so impaired that he was intubated on December 8th. After 5 days of intubation, he was showing signs of more independent breathing and was extubated on December 13th.

At this point (12/21), Rodney is still in the Covid-ICU and is currently on high-flow oxygen treatment. We have been told that it is only a matter of time until his lungs can recover as much as possible after this trauma. Progress is very slow with Covid. We have been told by the medical team that it is not uncommon for patients to stay in the ICU for 30-45 days (or longer) after extubation.

In the meantime, we have decided to create this website so that we can keep you all updated. Please be patient with us as we receive information and discuss whether or not to share it. This virus is very spasmodic so we don't want to send you all on the same emotional rollercoaster that we are currently on.

God bless you all and thank you very much for your continued prayers and support. We know that Rodney has everything it takes to kick this virus to the curb.
