Newest Update

Journal entry by JoJo Reyes

Dear Family and Friends,

I write today as several feelings overwhelm me and Chele. To start, I asked Chele that everything seems to be so hard right now. Every decision, every action feels so heavy. She let me know she’s feeling it too. Despite the obvious, we have so many reasons to smile (we do) and be thankful for. This is partly the reason we haven’t posted in a while. Maybe it’s due the aura of normalcy that we are embracing with full might. Maybe it’s because we know we’ll have 3 of the kids at Fresno State together next fall, transitioning to empty nesters as now Skye has moved out, treatment for Rocky is coming to an end in September, or that more unknowns post treatment is nearing on this last leg of the marathon. Maybe it’s a blend of all. I have no answers as air is constantly heavy.

Tomorrow we have his LP at Children’s and it always makes me nervous. What’s important to note is that Rocky has been having some good weeks. The ability to talk to him and see the light in his eyes is something words can’t  simply describe. There have been several brights spots where I want to capture things like a new dad. The amount of pictures posted this post is a testament to his Rock’s journey thus far, how far we have come, and how much more we have to go. When I asked to share these photos on social media, he said “yes”. So, I’m posting some here as well. This is still social media to some degree, right?  Going back to the weight of it all, maybe we just don’t want things to change? A perpetual groundhogs day to tightly embrace. All the kids are amazing (and frustrating, lol) and I’m married to my best friend. So, why the heaviness? I don’t know. What I do know is that we get up every morning and fight to be better people and parents. Like all parents, we want our  family to be healthy and happy. My sis, shared a post with me today. It says, “there’s always, always, always something to be grateful for”. Indeed there is, right now I’m grateful for simplicity. Focusing on being present and slowing things down is refreshing. I see life so differently now and I’m sure it will continue to change.

I’m closing, we trust you had a wonderful Easter knowing “the Lord has risen”.  The take away today is to see the smiles on our faces when we are together as a unit. Family is everything and we will fight and fight everyday. Know that when you see us, the mask is on but we are always trying to be present. We constantly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thank you for your continued support for our son and family. It all counts. A little extra prayer or well wishing for tomorrow’s LP please.

God bless,
Chele and JoJo
