Robert’s Story

Site created on August 22, 2018

Here is the story catching up to August 23, 2018. Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On July 26th Rob was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the nasal and sinus passages on the left side of his face.  This was diagnosed after months and months of him barely being able to breath through his nose at all with complete occlusion on the left side. He then started having left eye pain and issues with tearing as well. He was misdiagnosed by ADVENT ENT and we went for a second opinion who did a biopsy that gave us the adenocarinoma diagnosis. We then waited a week for any more details about his cancer as appointments were coordinated in the cancer center at Froedtert.

On August 15th he had his long awaited surgery. This involved an Nasal and sinus surgeon, a neurosurgeon and an eye surgeon. The tumor eroded through the bone separating his sinuses and eye socket on the left side and involved the muscles of the left eye. The tumor also eroded through the bone/skull leading to the brain along with the dura-the protective barrier to the brain. The tumor was removed, a tissue flap was taken from the top of his head to replace the bone and dura leading to the brain. The tumor was successfully peeled from the muscles of his eye.

Pain control was a big issue as Rob had complications with his spinal lumbar drain and spinal headaches.
He came home on Monday August 20th. He cannot lift anything over 2 pounds for six weeks.

We have been truly blessed with all the messages and caring thoughts and prayers. Rob's mother came the day before surgery and we kept each other company through the extensive 12 hours waiting to see him. She has been a huge help with the kids while going back and forth to he hospital. Rob's dad and brother Mark were able to come on the 20th as well. They are all visiting from California and here until August 27th. We were all supposed to go to a family reunion in Pennsylvania but we are unable to now for obvious reasons. Rob's dad is staying back with us.

I think this brings us up to today. Sorry I was unable to put this together sooner. The future brings appts next week to figure out radiation and chemo. Thoughts and prayers in the next coming months through this difficult time is much appreciated.
