In the Fall of 2014 Robert was diagnosed with ocular melanoma after experiencing a loss of vision in his right eye. Within weeks of the initial diagnosis, he began treatment with doctors in the eye clinic at Emory. Radiation was used to treat this rare form of cancer. Since then he has had scans every six months to detect the spread of the original cancer to other parts of his body. All of those scans were clear until recently. In January of 2019 two small spots were seen on his regularly scheduled scan. A liver biopsy was done which confirmed that the cancer had spread. We feel very good about the care and attention he is receiving from our primary doctors at Kaiser and the experts he has been referred to at Emory who have worked with many patients with this condition. Treatments begin this Tuesday, February 12th. He will receive periodic intravenous immunotherapy.
We believe that Robert’s naturally positive outlook on life, his ability to make friends with any and everyone and his strong faith in God will be sources of strength in this time of uncertainty.
