Bobbie’s Story

Site created on July 10, 2016

Welcome to Bobbie Nelson's CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated on her recovery progress. This site is being maintained and updated by her children and grandchildren so in the journal you will see references to Mom and Grandma in our entries.

For those of you who haven't heard, Mom was in a serious car accident on July 4th near Madison, WI . She sustained numerous fractures throughout her body and was in critical condition at the TLC Unit at the University of Wisconsin Health Center in Madison

Mom is now able to speak and no longer needs assisted breathing equipment, She is ambulatory and walks without any assistance, her memory is still foggy but that is expected and may clear up as time passes.

We believe that the excellent support system  she has had over the last few months has greatly improved her progress and accelerated her recovery

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers they truly made a difference.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Debbie Dahl

Hello friends and family,

It's been 4 years since we started this site and since the last post there have been lots of ups and downs; but Mom always prevailed. Despite the pandemic, she had been doing well considering all she had been through.

On May 19 she fell and broke her hip. The surgery to put pins in her hip resulted in her getting post-operative pneumonia. The pneumonia was treated with antibiotics and despite it lingering in her lungs she continued her physical therapy program for rehabilitating her hip.

On June 25, she was sent to the hospital due to breathing difficulties and low oxygen levels. Tests showed that her white blood cell count was  high and she was dehydrated. Her doctors gave her IV fluids, increased the strength of the antibiotics and  put her on a bipap machine to try to stabilize her.

The following morning we were notified that despite their efforts she was not responding to treatment. Our family had a long heartfelt conversation and agreed to move her to comfort care on Sunday; June 28th. We transferred her to Journey Care hospice in Barrington, IL  where she passed away peacefully on July 2nd.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, services for her will be private, but for those of you who know my mom, there will be a Celebration of Life planned when it is safe to gather in large numbers. She always loved a good party, so we would be remiss not to have one in her honor!

Mom was a long time supporter of St Jude Hospital, for those of you who would like to do something for her one last time, please pay it forward and click here to make a donation to St. Jude

Please feel free to share this information with anyone you feel may be interested in knowing.

Thanks again for all of your concern and support over the years, our entire family thanks you for being there for us.

Debbie Dahl .
