Robert (Rob)’s Story

Site created on April 24, 2021

Rob was born in 1962 in south-central Idaho to school teacher parents Kenneth and Nancy Fisher. His dad took a job in Deer Park, WA after his mom said they couldn’t financially make it in Idaho on a teachers salary. Rob grew up in Deer Park and currently lives on his family‘s farm of 51 years. At 16, Rob started working in the neighbors fields bucking hay and bagging groceries at the local grocery store to pay for flying lessons. At age 17 he earned his pilots license and graduated from high school with 150 hours of flight time. He continued his higher education in Oklahoma obtaining his A&P mechanics license, commercial pilots license and also his CFI and CFII at 19 years old. He attended Spokane Falls CC acquiring needed credits to transfer to Central Washington University.  While at CWU he flight instructed and graduated with a bachelor of science in flight technology in 1986. From there he flew air freight in piston and turbo prop twins. He progressed to flying for two regional airlines before being hired by Alaska Airlines on his 30th birthday. He was fortunate to fly the copilot seat of the Boeing 727, MD80 and 737-200QC. While flying the 737-200 he upgraded to Captain in 1999. Being Anchorage-based he thoroughly enjoyed flying off gravel strips and Aleutian chain airports. In 2001 he moved his family back to his childhood farm in Deer Park. Most recently during the past seven years, he has been a Check Airman and instructor for Alaska Airlines based in Seattle. Rob loves amateur radio, camping, fishing, working in the shop and spending time at his lake cabin, which he hopes to get back to very soon. Rob‘s family consists of his mother Nancy, wife Lonita, four children, three stepsons, their wives and three grandchildren.
