Rick’s Story

Site created on February 3, 2019

As most of you know, Rick has been struggling with lung disease for some time now and was recently accepted to a donor transplant list. He was moved to number one on that list Thursday and within 24 hours he was called to come to the hospital and prepare for the transplant!  It has been a whirlwind for everyone since then. He went into surgery about 1:30 on Saturday and it finished at 11:59 last night! Everything went very well, praise God! Everyone's prayers were felt all day as family and friends stayed together during the surgery.  We cannot thank the Doctors, nurses, and staff enough for taking care of Rick during this time and the upcoming days and months.  It will be a long process and we will try to keep you informed along the way.

Journal entry by Wendy Kempe

Rick and I want to thank everyone who has brought food, gift cards, visited, called, and prayed for us since Feb. 2nd. He is doing better than we ever imagined. Even though he hasn’t been totally released by his drs, he’s ready to get on with his life. He’s enjoying being able to go on errands and this last week has been able to go out to a restaurant!! He still can’t drive, but hopefully that will happen soon. The only thing we still need a little help with is taking him to SW. I think we have 3 more times or so we’ll need help.

We couldn’t have done this without everyone’s help and prayers. God has blessed him mightily and we couldn’t be more humbled and appreciative.
