Richard’s Story

Site created on November 25, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Richard was in a single vehicle car accident this week. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and rolled his vehicle. He sustained major injuries to his neck and spine. He is currently at UC Davis in Sacramento. He had surgery Tuesday night to try and stabilize his spine. He has injuries to his C5,6,7 and his spinal column. He is sedated and on a ventilator because it’s important that he rest and let his body try to heal.

He is going to have a very long road to recovery and very likely will be paralyzed - we won’t know the severity of paralysis for a few days.

He is not able to have visitors at this time. The hospital will not release any information about his recovery. I will post updates here for you all.
I know that everyone is worried and I know how much Richard is loved. This is a lot to take in for everyone.

If you’d like to send messages or cards I will make sure he gets them.

Hello family & friends!

Progress continues to happen here at rehab. This picture shows Rich laying on his stomach or “probing”. It helps relieve gas 🤢, helps strengthen his neck and arms. He doesn’t like it - if you can imagine - it does cause a bit of pain but it’s good for him.
Rich is getting to be quite proficient in driving his wheelchair. He zooms around the unit and goes outside.
His wound on his bottom is healing but still has a way to go.
Hopefully he will be home by his 50th birthday in March! What a gift that would be!!
